When buying down jackets, pay attention to upgrading the down content to down content

As the weather gets cooler, many consumers are beginning to consider buying cold-proof clothing for themselves and their families. The Hebei Provincial ProductQuality Supervision and Inspection Institute reminds consumers that starting from April this year, the new national standard for down “Down Clothing” (GB/ T14272-2021) will be officially implemented. The new national standard changes “down content” to “down content”. Only clothing with down as filler and a stated value of not less than 50% of down content can be called a down jacket.

So, what is the difference between cashmere content and velvet content? Simply put, velvet content = velvet content + velvet content.

The shape of the velvet is like a dandelion umbrella, relatively fluffy. The velvet is the single filament that falls off the velvet. It is in the shape of one strand, has no fluffy feel, has poor thermal insulation performance, and is easy to get stuck in the velvet. The velvet content of the old national standard includes both velvet and velvet, but it is mainly velvet that plays a role in keeping warm. After the implementation of the new national standard, only the down content in down will be marked.

Hebei Provincial Quality Inspection Institute reminds consumers to have several tips when choosing down jackets:

Take a look. Check whether the performance standards, down type, down content, down filling and other indicators are clearly marked on the down jacket tag.

Two clicks. Press the down jacket with your hands and release it immediately. If it rebounds quickly and returns to its original shape, it means the down has good fluffiness. If the elasticity is poor and it feels heavy when held in the hand, it indicates that the velvet content is low, or it may be mixed with a certain amount of wool pieces or crushed wool.

Three beats. Pat the down jacket hard. If there is down down or dust overflowing from the stitches, it means that the fabric has poor velvet resistance, the sewing needle holes are too large, or there are shoddy fillings such as shredded hair. This down jacket should not be worn.

Four touches. A good-quality down jacket feels soft to the touch and does not have excessively large or hard pieces of wool or feather stems.

Five smells. Put your nose close to the down jacket and smell it carefully. If there is an obvious odor or smell, it may be filled with low-quality down. It is recommended not to buy it.
