At the promotion meeting, Yizhou District Chief Qi Xiao introduced that Yizhou District is currently following the requirements of “strengthening the leader, replenishing the chain, and gathering groups” to build a 100-billion-yuan silkworm cocoon industry cluster around Hechi City and improve the silkworm cocoon industry. The level of construction of the entire silk industry chain will be promoted, and the integrated development of the primary, secondary and tertiary industries of silkworms will be promoted in an overall manner to create a secondary and light textile cluster with the silkworm cocoon and silk industry as the core. It is understood that Yizhou belongs to the subtropical monsoon climate zone and is one of the most suitable areas for silkworm production. It has a long history of growing mulberry and raising silkworms. Since 2005, its mulberry garden area and silkworm cocoon output have ranked first among counties in the country for 18 consecutive years. ; In 2022, the mulberry orchard area will reach 392,500 acres, with a fresh cocoon output of 93,000 tons and an output value of 4.6 billion yuan. The Guangxi sericulture industry cluster with Yizhou as the core area has been shortlisted for the construction of advantageous and characteristic industrial clusters in the country in 2022. “Yizhou Silkworm Cocoon” has been included in the first batch of regional public brands of mulberry silkworm agricultural products in Guangxi. It has obtained the National Agricultural Products Geographical Indication Certification and has been included in the CEIBS List of geographical indications.
At present, Yizhou District has established a relatively complete circulation and trade system to provide domestic cocoon and silk industry operators with comprehensive cocoon and silk supporting services such as information, trading, settlement, financing, warehousing, and insurance. In 2022, the China Economic Information Service and the Hechi Municipal People’s Government launched the “Xinhua·Hechi Sericulture Industry High-Quality Development Index”, which organically integrates the sericulture industry with digital indicators, quantitatively evaluates the development results of the sericulture industry, actively leads the innovation and development of the industry, and helps Hechi, Yizhou District tells the story of “China’s New Silk City”.
