Bangladesh leather and leather products exports rebound
According to a report by Bangladesh’s “Daily Star” on August 22, due to the convenient conditions of waterway transportation to Bangladesh’s non-traditional export market countries, and the Sino-US trade war on Bangladesh Affected by the opportunities brought by exports, Bangladesh’s leather and leather products exports began to rebound after two years of downturn.
According to data from the Bangladesh Export Promotion Agency, water transport volume reached US$106 million in July this year, a year-on-year increase of 16.39%. Leather products have become the second largest industry after garment processing with an export value exceeding US$1 billion. Of the US$1.01 billion in exports of leather and leather products in the last fiscal year, 83% came from leather products and 17% came from leather. The previous annual proportions were opposite, with leather accounting for a larger share and leather goods a smaller share. Leather and leather products are not only growing rapidly in Bangladesh’s traditional export markets such as the United States, the European Union, and Canada, but also performing well in Bangladesh’s non-traditional export markets such as Australia, Japan, and New Zealand. At the same time, the Sino-US trade war has allowed Bangladesh to receive a large number of export orders that originally belonged to China, and Bangladesh’s garment processing and leather product exports have also benefited from this.
