South Africa will take measures to crack down on illegal imports of Chinese clothing
According to a report on the South African Financial 24 Hours website on September 16, President Ramaphosa promised at the National Congress of the South African Garment and Textile Workers Union that the government would take more measures to combat illegal Import Chinese clothing and textiles, which are cheaper than locally manufactured products. The South African Revenue Service has been strengthening its investigative and enforcement capabilities to better combat illegal imports of clothing. The IRS conducted 2,500 raids between July and September looking for counterfeit and illegally imported goods, seizing goods worth more than R1 billion. In addition, the government will be more vigilant in enforcing “buy local” procurement regulations to support the local clothing and textile industry.
