Keqiao Blue Print Fashion Town: “Dye Vat” Chasing the New Blue Ocean

Heading north along Hangzhou Bay Avenue, you will arrive at Lanyin Fashion Town in Keqiao Economic and Technological Development Zone. Along the way, vehicles loaded with white fabrics or printed and dyed fabrics shuttled back and forth. Job advertisements are scrolling on electronic screens at the entrances of many printing and dyeing factories, and rows of private cars crowd the factory entrances.

At Zhejiang Dongsheng Printing and Dyeing Co., Ltd., Zhang Yufeng, executive deputy general manager, received the reporters. Asked about this year’s market situation, he smiled slightly: “We have completely overcome the impact of the epidemic and have returned to the same level as in 2019. Companies are competing in design, pattern, and service. Competition is fierce. But no matter what, go green. You can’t go wrong with the high-end approach.”

Zhang Yufeng’s words express a clear understanding of the development path of the printing and dyeing industry. Taking the development path of “green high-end, world-leading” has become the consensus of Lanyin fashion town enterprises.

Gathering and migration to welcome new students

On May 10th, the weather was hot, and the Guozhou Printing and Dyeing Group Project, which was relocated by a group of three printing and dyeing companies, was under construction. At present, the main body of the five-story factory has been erected, and the interior decoration is in progress.

“The project plans a total investment of 700 million yuan, with the goal of building an internationally leading intelligent printing and dyeing factory.” Project leader Yang Jie is full of expectations for the future.

On the morning of December 28, 2019, the Guozhou Printing and Dyeing Group Project started construction. It is the first construction project to start construction for the cross-regional agglomeration and improvement of the urban printing and dyeing industry. Regarding this “migration” from Yuecheng District to Keqiao Lanyin Fashion Town, Yang Jie bluntly said that it was a new life.

“The company has been doing printing and dyeing for decades, and it could survive in the past, but now it is determined to take advantage of the situation to upgrade and create a new situation.” Yang Jie said that the new Guozhou group project eliminated all the original equipment and replaced it with German, With advanced equipment from Japan and Italy, the project will have an annual production capacity of 5,000 tons of bulk fiber, 22,000 tons of yarn and 400 million meters of printing and dyeing fabrics after completion. It is estimated that the annual sales revenue will be 1.6 billion yuan, with profits and taxes of 300 million yuan.

The Binhai Industrial Park where Lanyin Fashion Town is located is currently home to 108 printing and dyeing companies. In the past 10 years, 212 printing and dyeing companies scattered across various places have “migrated” here one after another after going through the “pains” of integration, agglomeration, transformation and upgrading.

In 2012, Zhejiang Dongsheng Printing and Dyeing Co., Ltd. was the first company to move to a cluster area. Zhang Yufeng still remembers his first “crab-eating” move that year. “At the beginning, many worries weighed on my mind.” He was worried first about the increase in costs. All the equipment in the old factory would be eliminated, and hundreds of millions of yuan would have to be invested in the construction of the new factory, which was like “cutting meat.” Secondly, he was worried about customers and employees. The “prime location” next to it has been moved to the Qiantang River, an hour’s drive from the city. Are they willing to follow? This was a problem faced by almost all relocation companies at that time.

“Relocation and agglomeration have forced us to move into the mid-to-high end.” Zhang Yufeng said that due to rising costs, the original low-end products such as four-way stretch and weft stretch in the polyester series basically have no profit margins. After the company resumed production in 2014, it decisively tried to develop knitting and woven seriesnew products, and achieved considerable returns in the second year: not only did the profit margin double, but it also became a blue-green brand. The first enterprise in India’s fashion town with a tax revenue exceeding 30 million yuan. In addition, the company also adheres to the path of green development and was rated as one of the first batch of green benchmark demonstration enterprises in Shaoxing’sprinting and dyeing industry, and received awards for pollution emission indicators.

The agglomeration effect is achieved through accumulation. Represented by Lanyin Fashion Town, in the past five years, Keqiao has eliminated 3.816 billion meters of backward printing and dyeing production capacity, invested more than 1.5 billion yuan in environmental protection equipment, and developed internationally advanced green equipment. The application proportion has increased from 30% to more than 60%, the comprehensive energy consumption of industrial added value above designated size has dropped by 8.1% year-on-year, and the added value of printing and dyeing cloth per meter has increased by more than 15%. The quality and efficiency of the industry have been significantly improved.

A path to whole-chain innovation

At Zhejiang Baofang Printing and Dyeing Co., Ltd., the white fabrics are stacked neatly at the entrance of the factory. From a distance, they look like hills, which is full of momentum. “Will such a large amount of gray fabric cause a product backlog?” Faced with a reporter’s question, the company’s executive director Qi Xin smiled, “It will be used up soon. Our daily production capacity is 1.4 million meters, converted into kilometers. Can go from Keqiao to Beijing.”

Baofang Printing and Dyeing is an integrated industry and trade enterprise specializing in the African market. Its imitation batik printed fabrics are well-known in Africa. It is the supplier with the largest market share in the local market, with sales reaching US$180 million last year. Not only that, from 2016 to 2019, the company’s sales achieved an average annual growth of approximately 30%.

The rapid growth in sales is due to an important innovation of Baofang Printing and Dyeing: the development of imitation batik printed fabrics to replace real batik printed fabrics. Rosin is used in the production of real batik printed cloth. This raw material can cause pollution. Under the increasing environmental pressure, the profit margin of this cloth has gradually shrunk. In 2014, through independent research and development, Baofang Printing and Dyeing produced imitation batik printed fabrics that are similar in color and feel to real batik and are more environmentally friendly.

“In order to matchBusiness side. The government side is to share and apply public resource data from various departments to help the government grasp industrial development trends and predict industrial development trends; the enterprise side is to build a public whole-industry chain platform, using the data supply chain as a link to promote production Reconstruction of methods, business models, etc. ” said Qiu Bo, director of the Digital Development Center of Keqiao District Economic and Information Bureau.

According to Fu Shuangli, chairman of “Yingfeng Technology”, the future Internet platform for the printing and dyeing industry should be like Taobao and Meituan. Enterprises settle on the platform and become merchants. Customers can directly judge and compare on the platform. The order should be placed with who. “This will completely change and subvert the entire printing and dyeing industry.” Fu Shuangli said.

The “dye vat” butterfly breeds a new machine. This green, innovative and intelligent printing and dyeing town is making an all-out attack on the new blue ocean.
