According to the latest data released by the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Office of Textile Products (OTEXA), U.S. textile and garment imports continued to grow in March 2022.

In March 2022, the import volume of U.S. textiles and clothing products was 9.37 billion square meters, an increase of 15.8% compared with February and an increase of 39% compared with March 2021, of which The import volume of textiles (including yarn, cloth and miscellaneous items) was 6.26 billion square meters, an increase of 4.3% from February, and an increase of 47.4% from March 2021; the import volume of ready-made garments was 3.11 billion square meters, an increase of 18.3% from February, and an increase of 47.4% from March 2021. Growth in March 2021 was 24.8%.

U.S. textile and garment imports from January to March 2022 were 26.01 billion square meters, an increase of 38.6% compared with the same period in 2021. The import volume of textiles was 17.66 billion square meters, an increase of 46.3%; the import volume of ready-made clothing was 8.35 billion square meters, an increase of 24.7%.

The import value of U.S. textiles and garments from January to March 2022 was US$32.37 billion, an increase of 31.4% compared with the same period in 2021. The import value of textiles was US$8.05 billion, an increase of 11.3%; the import value of ready-made clothing was US$24.32 billion, an increase of 39.7%.

Based on the analysis of import value from January to March 2022, China is still the largest supplier of textiles and garments to the United States, accounting for 25.1%, followed by Vietnam, accounting for 14.7% . Among the top ten garment suppliers in the United States, imports from Bangladesh and Indonesia increased by 62.2% and 62.3% respectively compared with the same period last year. Imports from India and Pakistan also increased by 53-54%; while imports from Honduras only increased by 21.1%. Among the top ten textile suppliers to the United States, imports from Cambodia surged by 74.4%, imports from Vietnam increased by 25.7%, and imports from Turkey decreased by 5%.
