Indian cotton yarn prices fall further

Foreign news on September 26, cotton yarn in northern India remains weak due to poor demand and uncertainty in consumer purchases. Cotton yarn prices have fallen by Rs 10-20 per kg in Ludhiana and Delhi over the past one week and the same trend has been maintained for recycled yarn in Banipat. However, traders from Barneybird expect conditions to improve in the coming weeks as the festive season begins.

In Ludhiana, buying did not show any improvement. Buyers are cautious about new deals as they are not confident about demand from downstream industries. A local trader said: “Under the pressure of weak demand, cotton yarn remains sluggish. Poor procurement in the downstream industry is the main reason for concern. The drop in cotton prices has also hit the market sentiment in yarn trading.”

In Ludhiana, cotton yarn prices fell by Rs 10-20 per kg last week. 30 count combed yarn is priced at Rs 342-352 per kg. 20-count and 50-count combed yarn are quoted at Rs 332-342 and Rs 337-347 per kg. The price of 30 count woolen yarn is 295-300 rupees per kilogram.

Cotton yarn prices fell further in Delhi over the past one week. A trader from Delhi said: “Demand is average and buyers are buying yarn just to meet immediate demand. The textile industry is still uncertain about the increase in purchases by the garment industry.”

In Delhi, 30-count combed yarn is traded at 360-365 rupees per kilogram, 40-count combed yarn is quoted at 400-405 rupees per kilogram, 30-count woolen yarn is quoted at 315-320 rupees per kilogram, and 40-count coarse yarn is quoted at 315-320 rupees per kilogram. The spinning quotation is 355-360 rupees per kilogram.

Banibird expects demand to increase this week as the Navratri festival begins, which is seen as an auspicious day for new purchases. Traders said recycled yarn remains weak, but the coming days will be key for the market.

Domestic home furnishings usually pick up during the festive season, especially before Diwali. However, no positive phenomena were noticed on the first day of Navratri.

Recycled yarn varieties rarely fall by Rs 5-10 per kg. In Banipat, 10-count recycled yarn (white) is traded at Rs 88-93 per kg. 10 count recycled yarn (high quality color) is quoted at 100-105 rupees per kilogram. 10-count recycled yarn (colorful inferior quality) is quoted at 80-85 rupees per kilogram, and 20-count recycled high-quality PC yarn (colored) is quoted at 110-115 rupees per kilogram. 30 count recycled yarn is sold at Rs 160-165 per kg.

10-count light yarn is quoted at 100-110 rupees per kilogram. Combed prices are quoted at Rs 128-130 per kg. Recycled polyester fiber (PET bottle fiber) held steady at 88-90 rupees per kg.

The cotton market in northern India is still bearish due to reduced purchases by cotton mills. Weak demand, even with recent rainfall, has failed to support cotton prices.

Cotton prices for delivery in October have fallen sharply. In northern India, which consists of Punjab, Haryana, northern Rajasthan, and southern Rajasthan, the daily arrival volume is estimated to be 6,000 packages (170 kg/pack). The price of cotton for spot and September delivery is 7700-7750 rupees per moend. Forward cotton for October delivery was trading at 7,100-7,150 rupees per morund.
