Statistics released by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka show that Sri Lanka’s clothing exports in 2022 will be US$5.483 billion, an increase of 10.7% from US$4.952 billion in the same period in 2021. However, due to the global economic slowdown, the country’s clothing exports fell by 8.7% in December.
The country’s textile exports in 2022 will be US$354 million, a decrease of 0.5% compared with the same period in 2021. According to the country’s central bank’s “Trade Performance” report, the export value of other textile products during the same period was US$115 million, a decrease of 10.1% compared with 2021.
The report shows that in 2022, the export value of textiles, clothing, and other textile products accounted for 56.87% of Sri Lanka’s total manufacturing exports; the total textile and clothing exports were US$5.952 billion. , an increase of 9.5% compared with the same period in 2021.
However, the country’s textile and clothing exports in December 2022 fell 9.7% compared with the same period in 2021, reaching US$482 million. By category, apparel exports fell by 8.7% to US$440 million, textile exports fell by 23.3% to US$29.8 million, and exports of other textile products fell by 4% to US$9.1 million.
On the other hand, imports of textiles and other textile products decreased by 0.1% to US$3.065 billion in 2022, and imports of clothing and accessories fell by 2.6% to US$216 million.
