Indian polyester-cotton yarn prices fall due to weak demand

Foreign news reported on May 24 that the prices of polyester staple fiber and polyester-cotton yarn in India continued to decline. This was mainly affected by falling raw material prices and weak demand in the textile industry.

However, viscose yarn prices remained stable due to limited supply. According to trade sources, the polyester-cotton yarn and viscose yarn markets are experiencing slowdown in demand. Domestic manufacturers reduce the prices of polyester staple fiber and its raw materials to bring them in line with the global market.

In the Ludhiana market, prices of polyester-cotton yarn and polyester yarn declined. Yarn prices fell by Rs 2-3 per kg in the segment due to lower raw material costs and weak demand.

A trader in the Ludhiana market said: “The textile industry has slowed down production because they do not expect that demand from the garment industry will be great. For polyester staple fiber (PSF) prices are expected to fall further, suppressing buyer enthusiasm. However, Reliance Group (Reliance) may not further lower polyester staple fiber prices in the next two weeks.”

In the Ludhiana market, the price of 30-count polyester staple fiber fell to Rs 147-156 per kg. The price of 30-count polyester-cotton combed yarn in Ludhiana is quoted at 205-215 rupees per kilogram (including consumption tax). Meanwhile, the price of 30-count polyester-cotton carded yarn remained stable at 195-205 rupees per kg.

In the Surat market, the price of polyester staple fiber also fell by 2-3 rupees per kilogram. Industry sources said buyers are wary of striking new deals. They are unwilling to use their liquidity to buy yarn in bulk.

The price of 30-count polyester short fiber was reported at 135-136 rupees per kilogram, and the price of 40-count polyester short fiber was reported at 151-152 rupees per kilogram.

In the Mumbai market, the price of 30-count viscose yarn remained stable, with transactions at 185-195 rupees per kilogram (excluding consumption tax). Market demand for viscose yarn is also slow, trade sources said.

However, the introduction of BIS certified viscose fiber has led to price stability. This development may lead to a slowdown in polyester staple fiber imports in the coming months.

Cotton prices in northern India fell due to weak demand from the textile industry. Concerns stem from weakening sentiment in the textile value chain. Slowing exports and local demand for yarn have adversely affected cotton market conditions. Cotton prices have fallen by 150-200 rupees/moend (about 37.2 kg) in the past few days.

The arrival volume of cotton from northern India is 5,000 bales (1 bale = 170 kg). Cotton prices are quoted at Rs 5,575-5,675 per morund in Punjab, Rs 5,650-5,750 per morind in Haryana, Rs 5,975-6,100 per morind in northern Rajasthan, and 55,200 per kandi (356 kg) in southern Rajasthan. -Rs 57000.
