Xinjiang Yarkand: The weather has little impact and some cotton fields are budding
Since May, severe weather such as strong winds, rainfall, and hail has occurred in many places in Xinjiang, and some cotton fields have experienced repeated blooms.
A cotton farmer in Shache, Xinjiang, said that the area was less affected by strong winds and hail, but was mainly affected by low temperature weather during the sowing period. The growth of cotton seedlings was about a week later than in previous years. Up to now, the plant height of local cotton seedlings is about 20 centimeters, with mainly 5 leaves and 1 core, and a few cotton seedlings with 6 leaves and 1 core. The field 200 meters away from the plot is basically unaffected. With the recent increase in temperature, growth has accelerated and buds are now emerging.
As the temperature gradually rises, it brings favorable conditions for cotton growth. Currently, cotton farmers are mainly focusing on strengthening field management (weeding, spraying pesticides and insect control) to increase cotton yield in the later period.
