Sichuan carries out towel quality and safety risk monitoring, two major risks to be alert to
Towels are one of the essential daily consumer goods in people’s lives, and they are also a product frequently used by infants and young children. In order to protect the health and safety of infants and young children, further understand the potential quality hazards that may exist in towel products, and avoid the occurrence of injury incidents, the Sichuan Provincial Market Supervision Bureau follows the “early detection, early warning, According to the risk monitoring requirements of “early disposal”, we have recently organized and carried out quality and safety risk monitoring of towel products. Conduct risk assessment and monitoring for items such as tetrachlorophenol, pentachlorophenol and allergenic dyes in this type of products, and specially issue consumption tips to remind consumers to consume with caution.
According to monitoring, there are two main risks in towels: one is tetrachlorophenol/pentachlorophenol. Tetrachlorophenol/pentachlorophenol are widely used in the production process of towel products as preservatives and antifungal agents. Excessive tetrachlorophenol/pentachlorophenol has a strong irritating effect on the eyes, mucous membranes, respiratory tract and skin of infants and young children. If inhaled into the body, symptoms such as cough, headache, nausea, etc. may occur. In severe cases, it may cause pharyngitis or bronchitis, edema, Cramps etc. In addition, PCP is also an insecticide and sterilizer. The World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer has included PCP in the list of Class I carcinogens. The second is allergenic dyes. Brightly colored towel products use a large amount of dyes. A large number of studies have shown that there are 27 kinds of allergenic dyes. Excessive allergenic dyes may cause skin, mucous membrane or respiratory tract allergy symptoms after being inhaled by infants and young children.
The Sichuan Provincial Market Supervision Bureau reminds consumers to pay attention to the following four points when purchasing and using towel products:
First, try to choose formal channels to buy towels. Choose products with comprehensive and standardized logo content. Avoid purchasing towel products without manufacturers, tags or washable logos.
Second, observe the appearance when purchasing. You can smell the towel and choose a towel product with no peculiar smell; feel the material of the towel. A high-quality towel has a fluffy and soft texture, clear printing and dyeing patterns, and no obvious color differences.
Third, it should be washed before use. If you notice discoloration or hair loss after the first wash, or if the dark towel still loses color after multiple washes, it is recommended to stop using it.
The fourth is reasonable use. Towels should be used rationally and replaced regularly; try to dry them in a ventilated and dry place after use to avoid the breeding of bacteria.
