Spring cocoons harvest in Feixi County, Anhui Province

Feixi County, Anhui Province will have a bumper harvest of spring cocoons in 2021. The county raised 21,600 silkworm seeds in spring, an increase of 13.7% over the same period in 2020; each silkworm seed produced an average of 50 kilograms, the same as the same period in 2020; the average purchase price of fresh cocoons was 50 yuan/kg, an increase of 56% over the same period in 2020; Sericulture farmers’ income from sericulture was 54 million yuan, an increase of 82% over the same period in 2020. As one of the characteristic agricultural industries in Feixi County, the sericulture industry has gradually formed a characteristic economic crop industry that has begun to take shape in Hefei after more than 40 years of unremitting efforts. It is the only county in Hefei City with a sericulture industry.

Policy support has achieved remarkable results. In 2020, the document “Feixi County’s Implementation Opinions on Promoting the HighQuality Development of Modern Agriculture” (Feifa [2020] No. 1) identified the sericulture industry as a high-quality modern agricultural industry in the county. One of the five advantageous characteristic industries for quality development. Up to now, the county has 56,500 acres of mulberry orchards (including 1,200 acres of dual-purpose fruit and leaf mulberry orchards), ranking second in the province in terms of mulberry orchard area. Mulberry planting and sericulture are mainly distributed in seven township parks of Mingchuan, Guanting, Shannan, Shishugang, Huagang, Zipeng and Zipengshan Management Committee. The county has a unified plan for the construction of mulberry gardens, which are concentrated and contiguous, with high-quality varieties and regional planting. The supply of silkworm seeds, cocoon harvesting and drying, silk reeling, etc. are integrated into one, and the sericulture technology service network is complete. Currently, there are 46 family farms with mulberry gardens of more than 50 acres in the county, including 21 with mulberry gardens of more than 100 acres and 8 with mulberry gardens of more than 300 acres.

There is good momentum for large-scale intensification. There are two cocoonsilk companies in the county, namely Hefei Jufeng Silk Making Co., Ltd. located in Fengle Town and Feixi County Mingchuan Silk Co., Ltd. located in Mingchuan Township The factory has an annual output of raw silk of 600 tons, an annual output of 6,000 silk quilts, and an annual output value of 210 million yuan. There are 11 sericulture cooperatives and 46 sericulture family farms in the county.

In recent years, the county, in accordance with the concept of “one county, one industry (special)”, has selected sericulture, cocoon and silk as the leading industry with good basic conditions, long industrial chain and good market development prospects, and focused on supporting it.
