Jiangsu Sihong: The price of silkworm cocoons has doubled, and silkworm farmers are happy with the harvest
In the past two days, spring silkworm cocoons have been opened for purchase in Sihong County, Suqian City, Jiangsu Province. Due to the influence of the international market, the price of silkworm cocoons has doubled this year compared to previous years, and the faces of silkworm farmers are full of joy of harvest.
At the Caomiao Cocoon Purchasing Station in Jieji Town, Sihong County, bags of silkworm cocoons are poured into frames by silkworm farmers. The clean baskets of white silkworm cocoons also represent the rewards of hard work. Due to the influence of market conditions, the price of silkworm cocoons this year is 60 to 65 yuan per kilogram, which has doubled compared with previous years. Sericulture farmers are very satisfied with this year’s price.
“I raised 6 silkworms this year, earning about 500 kilograms. The price is 63 yuan per kilogram, half more than last year. Our whole family is very happy.” Cao Cui’an, a silkworm farmer in Jieji Town, Sihong County, said happily.
It is understood that this year, there are more than 3,000 acres of mulberry trees in Jieji Town, Sihong County, and more than 200 silkworm farmers. It is expected that it will take about two days to fully complete the purchase of silkworm cocoons. Judging from the acquisition situation, a total of nearly 60,000 kilograms of silkworm cocoons have been purchased so far, and the cocoonquality and output are both better than last year.
“This year’s price is much higher than in previous years. Our highest price is 64 yuan (per kilogram), and there is also a reward of 1 yuan (per kilogram).” Qian Youtian, the person in charge of Caomiao Cocoon Station in Jieji Town, Sihong County explain.
