Gao County, Sichuan: Silkworm farmers’ income from selling cocoons was 288 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 63.6%
On August 24, Huang Maoqiang, a major sericulture farmer, was busy picking mulberry leaves in the layered mulberry garden in Hongyi Village, Kejiu Town, Gao County, Sichuan Province. “This year, I have fed three batches of silkworms and earned nearly 100,000 yuan.” Huang Maoqiang said cheerfully. Sericulture has always been one of the five characteristic and advantageous industries of agriculture in the county. In Kejiu Town, there is more than one large sericulture farmer like Huang Maoqiang. This year, the first three batches of silkworm cocoons in the town totaled more than 70,000 kilograms, with a total output value of more than 7.2 million yuan.
Gao County is the “Hometown of Sericulture in China”. It currently has 227,000 acres of high-quality mulberry gardens, covering 13 towns, 134 villages, nearly 30,000 households and 100,000 sericulture farmers. It has built Luochang, Jiale, Qingfu, There are 5 “10,000 acres of sericulture demonstration areas” including Luorun and Jiaocun.
Last winter and this spring, the county closely followed the goal of increasing farmers’ income, planning and deploying early. Currently, the county has distributed 119,000 silkworm seeds and produced 5.349 million kilograms of cocoons, a year-on-year increase of 2.2% and 2.6% respectively; silkworm farmers’ sales Cocoon’s revenue was 288 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 112 million yuan, an increase of 63.6%.
