01Opportunities and challenges for the development of the antibacterial industry under the new situation

The occurrence of the COVID-19 epidemic not only profoundly changed the world’s political and economic situation at that time, but also changed people’s lifestyles and concepts to a great extent. So, what is the impact of the new crown epidemic on the antibacterial industry? At this conference, CIAA, IAC (American Antimicrobial Association), and SIAA (Japanese Antimicrobial Products Technical Association) introduced the development status of the antimicrobial industry in China, the United States, and Japan respectively.

According to Li Wendong, chairman of CIAA, four major changes have occurred in the antibacterial industry after the outbreak of the new crown epidemic. One is the awakening of antibacterial awareness. Through the education of the epidemic, people’s biological literacy has been gradually established, and health products that help prevent and control microbial risks have gradually begun to be favored by consumers. As a result, antibacterial products have experienced a consumption boom. Second, the industry is developing rapidly. From an upstream perspective, most antibacterial agent companies are experiencing supply shortages to varying degrees. From a testing perspective, antibacterial testing laboratories are also queuing up for testing. The third is the emergence of new market applications, such as automobiles, sanitary ware, protective equipment such as masks and protective clothing, as well as daily chemical products such as hand sanitizer and wet wipes, which have become new market hot spots. Fourth, new hot spots have emerged in product development. In addition to antibacterial, anti-mildew, anti-mite, and deodorant functions, anti-viral functions have become a new hot spot for development.

For the antibacterial industry, there are opportunities and challenges. According to Mr. Li Wendong, China’s antibacterial industry currently faces three major challenges: regulations, market and epidemic. In response to this problem, Mr. Li Wendong pointed out in his opening speech that CIAA has been working to solve these problems in the past two years. For example, CIAA has formulated and released nearly 30 group standards since 2018, and is committed to building an antibacterial standards system consisting of basic standards, material standards and product standards to better regulate industrial development. In response to the problem that consumers do not know how to choose antibacterial products and do not have enough trust in antibacterial products, CIAA is actively promoting the market application of antibacterial signs and promoting safe, antibacterial and effective antibacterial products to the society in the form of antibacterial signs. At the same time, in order to better enable China’s antibacterial industry to go out to participate in the competition in the world market, CIAA and the antibacterial associations of Japan and South Korea jointly launched the World Antibacterial Industry Federation (English abbreviation : WFAI), after 8 years of hard work, WFAI was finally registered last year.

02 Establish the underlying logic for China’s antibacterial industry in a standard form

“First-rate companies make standards, second-rate companies make brands, and third-rate companies make products.” This is true for enterprises, and it is also true for industries. Industrial development must come first with standards. Only in this way can products have laws to follow, the market can develop in a standardized way, and the industry can grow healthily. Currently, although China has issued more than 100 antibacterial-related standards including national standards, industry standards, local standards, etc., because these standards are mostly material standards and product standards and lack basic standards for the entire industry, the market is very complicated. To a large extent, it is in a state of disorderly competition.

Therefore, in the past two years, CIAA has established the underlying logic of building China’s antibacterial industry in a standard form. At the 2021 CIAA group standards release session, Ms. Sun Tingli, deputy director of the Guangdong Provincial Microbial Analysis and Testing Center, explained CIAA’s plan. According to her introduction, since the launch of group standards work in 2018, CIAA has formulated and released more than 27 group standards, and has established more than 7 standards that are under development. CIAA publicly released these 27 group standards at the meeting and issued participating unit certificates to participating units. In the subsequent summit forum session, Guangdong Hengjie Sanitary Ware Co., Ltd.Purpose achievement. This is not only due to the government’s proper command and powerful measures, but also to a large extent due to the active participation of all walks of life in epidemic prevention and control, and the antibacterial industry is no exception. After the outbreak, CIAA released the “Initiative on Mobilizing Member Units to Donate Anti-epidemic Materials to Hubei Province” to the industry on January 28, 2020. Since then, many antibacterial industry companies have invested in the prevention and control of the new crown epidemic in various forms. In order to better promote excellence, CIAA held the “2021 Commendation Meeting for Advanced Units in Fighting the New Coronavirus Epidemic” during the conference to commend units that have made outstanding contributions in the fight against the new coronavirus epidemic.

For antibacterial companies, investing in the antibacterial COVID-19 epidemic is a responsible performance, and being able to promote compliance is an important factor in their ability to develop rapidly under the COVID-19 epidemic situation. To this end, this conference specially invited Mr. Tang Jianxiong from the Shanghai Administration for Market Regulation to give a professional explanation on the latest regulations of the advertising law, analysis of advertising cases, and precautions for antibacterial publicity on the theme of “Commercial Advertising Compliance in the Online Economy”. Mr. Tang Jianxiong said that whether it is an advertiser or an “anchor expert” who sells goods live, product promotion advertisements must be true and legal, and must not contain false or misleading content, and must not deceive or mislead consumers, otherwise it will constitute false advertising. Ms. Guan Yanhong from Hangzhou Ruiou Company introduced the latest foreign antibacterial regulations.

At the same time, Mr. Wu Guozhong from the Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Mr. Li Bizhong from Beijing Shangzhi Nanotechnology Co., Ltd., and Mr. Gao Lizeng from the Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, respectively presented their speeches on “Application of Irradiation Technology in the Field of Functional Textiles” and “Research and Development of Antiviral Materials”. With the themes of “Nanozyme Antibacterial Materials” and “Nanozyme Antibacterial Materials”, the irradiation technology, antiviral technology, nanozyme and other technologies and their market applications were introduced.
