Dali Xiangyun was awarded the title of “China’s Hometown of Silkworms”
On the morning of October 28, 110 sericulture experts from various states, cities (counties) in Yunnan Province gathered in Xiangyun County, Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, to conduct research on Xiangyun and Luliang counties, which have won the title of “China’s Hometown of Silkworms” Award.
Entrusted by the Chinese Sericulture Society, Dong Zhanpeng, executive vice chairman of the Yunnan Sericulture Society and director of the Sericulture and Bee Research Institute of the Provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences, awarded Xiangyun County the “Hometown of Sericulture in China” plaque, which is the successor to the pine trees in Liuchang Town, Xiangyun County. Since Meicun was recognized as a national “One Village, One Product” (sericulture) demonstration village by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Xiangyun County has received another honor.

The sericulture industry is a traditional advantageous industry in Xiangyun County. At the end of 2020, the county’s mulberry orchard area was 100,000 acres, and a total of 140,000 silkworms were raised throughout the year. The output of fresh cocoons was 6,385 tons, and the revenue from fresh cocoons was 230 million yuan.
