Heqing, Yunnan: The 2021 cocoon acquisition work is nearing completion
As silkworms spin cocoons in late autumn, the purchase of the last batch of cocoons in 2021 in Heqing County, Yunnan Province has officially begun. There is an endless stream of silkworm farmers going to sell cocoons, and so far the purchase is nearing completion. At the Beixi Station of the County Cocoon Silk Company, silkworm farmers are arriving one after another with bags of cocoons for sale. The staff at the cocoon station screen, weigh, record, test and grade the cocoons in an orderly manner. After the silkworm farmer sells the cocoons, the cocoon payment is paid electronically through the company’s system and reaches the silkworm farmer’s account in a few seconds. In recent years, the County Cocoon Silk Company has seized on the recovery situation in the silk market and timely adjusted purchase prices to further encourage silkworm farmers to strengthen mulberry orchard management, increase yields, and increase income. According to statistics, the average price of spring cocoons in the county this year is 55 to 60 yuan per kilogram, a record high unit price and an increase of nearly 50% year-on-year.
