Ruzhou, Henan: Golden silkworms weave the dream of well-off society
“This year, because of the introduction of Shandong technology, the cocoon output is much better than last year. One silkworm can spin eight to ninety pounds of cocoons. I have sold more than 110 acres of mulberry and 6 silkworm sheds. It’s more than 400,000 yuan, not bad!” On the morning of October 29, in the large mulberry field still green on the north side of Xing Village, Jiaocun Town, Ruzhou City, Henan Province, six white greenhouses were particularly conspicuous, and the last batch was harvested. Ding Guangya, a big farmer of silkworm cocoons, said with a smile.
In order to improve the silkworm breeding capacity and ensure the quality of silkworm cocoons, Jiaocun Town not only hired expert guidance, but also invited 5 people from a sericulture base in Junan County, Shandong Technicians and sub-contractors provide guidance on breeding techniques and teach them step by step.
“The technical requirements for sericulture are high, but they can be summed up in 8 words: disinfection, disease prevention, good mulberry, and full food.” Villager Zhuang Yonggang said that disinfection means using bleaching powder and lime to disinfect the sericulture room; To prevent diseases, you can use the special anti-stiffness powder produced by experts in sericulture technology; to use good mulberry leaves, that is, to choose the best mulberry leaves, and ensure that there is no water or medicine on the mulberry leaves; to eat well, that is, to add mulberry leaves every 2 to 3 hours. . The whole body of silkworms is a treasure and does not pollute the environment. Silkworm feces can be used as medicine after treatment, while mulberry trees can absorb heavy metals in the soil. The leftover mulberry branches eaten by silkworms can also be broken into pieces for processing.
Up to now, the village has developed more than 30 sericulture farming households, planted more than 1,300 acres of high-quality mulberry, built 67 silkworm sheds, and created annual benefits of more than 5 million yuan. According to Zhao Guocai, director of the Sericulture Office of Jiaocun Town, Jiaocun Town currently has 4,000 acres of standardized mulberry gardens, covering 10 villages including Xing Village and Jin Village, driving 107 sericulture households, and building 284 standardized sericulture greenhouses. Silkworms have begun to take shape, and we have successfully developed a series of sericulture products such as silk quilts, mulberry leaf tea, mulberry wine, mulberry vinegar, dried mulberries, mulberry eggs, mulberry leaf vegetables, mulberry leaf noodles, and edible silkworm pupae. From the sericulture industry, the villagers received land rent, planting and breeding income, working wages and dividends from shares, achieving the goal of “cultivating ten acres of mulberry every household, becoming rich and well-off”.
