The evaluation method of fabric’s UV resistance performance usually uses the spectrophotometer method. Use an ultraviolet spectrophotometer as the radiation source, use an integrating sphere to collect the radiation flux in all directions through the fabric, and calculate the ultraviolet transmittance. The current standards that use this method include AADFGE465IU8GHYJTCC 183, AS/NZS 4399, BS EN 13758, etc.

UV-resistant fabrics are usually evaluated comprehensively based on two indicators: UPF and UVA transmittance:

1) UPF – the ratio of the ultraviolet color transmittance effect calculated when no protective equipment is used and the actual calculated ultraviolet color transmittance effect using protective equipment. It is currently a widely used indicator at home and abroad for evaluating anti-UV fabrics.

2) UPA transmittance – the ratio of the long-wave ultraviolet transmitted radiation flux when there is a sample to the long-wave ultraviolet transmitted radiation flux without the sample.

The main factors that affect the performance of UV-resistant fabric are:

1) Fiber type, usually polyester and wool have better UV protection than cotton fabrics;

2) Fabric structure, the tighter the fabric, the more transparent it is. The less UV rays that pass through, the better its UV protection performance;

3) Fabric color. Generally, dark fabrics transmit less UV rays than light-colored fabrics. Its UPF value is higher.

The UV-resistant fabric produced by City Textile was tested using the international standard specification UV Stardand801, which can achieve UPF50+.
