Nylon is the earliest synthetic fiber variety to be industrially produced and belongs to aliphatic polyamide fiber. The main varieties of nylon are nylon 6 and nylon 66. Nylon has good performance, high output and wide range of uses. It is the main synthetic fiber variety after polyester.



Nylon is mainly filament, and there is also a small amount of nylon short fiber. Nylon filament is mainly used to make strong yarn for the production of socks, underwear, sweatshirts, etc. Nylon staple fiber is mainly blended with viscose, cotton, wool and other synthetic fibers and used as clothing fabrics. Nylon can also be used industrially as tire cords, parachutes, fishing nets, ropes, conveyor belts, etc.



The main physical and chemical properties of nylon
1. Shape: The longitudinal surface of nylon is straight and smooth, and the cross-section is round. Nylon is resistant to alkali but not acid. In inorganic acids, the amide bonds on the nylon macromolecules will break.
2. Strong elongation and wear resistance: Nylon has high strength, large elongation and excellent elasticity. Its breaking strength is about 42~56cN/tex, and its elongation at break is 25%~65%. Therefore, nylon has particularly excellent wear resistance and ranks first among common textile fibers. It is an ideal material for making wear-resistant products. However, the initial modulus of nylon is small, it is easy to deform, and its fabric is not stiff.
3. Hygroscopicity and dyeability Nylon has the best hygroscopicity among common synthetic fibers, with a moisture regain of about 4.5% under normal atmospheric conditions. In addition, nylon has good dyeability and can be dyed with acid dyes, disperse dyes and other dyes.
4. Light resistance and heat resistance, etc. Because the end groups of nylon macromolecules are sensitive to light and heat, causing nylon to turn yellow and brittle, nylon has poor light resistance and heat resistance and is not suitable for making outdoor fabrics. In addition, nylon is corrosion-resistant, not afraid of mildew, and not afraid of insects.
