What properties should sportswear fabrics have
1. Durability
Sports clothing should have good durability properties, including tensile breaking strength, tear strength, cracking strength, abrasion resistance, heat resistance, sun resistance, etc. In many modern sports, people often do large movements, which requires sportswear to have good stretchability and increase the range of joint and muscle activities. Therefore, modern sportswear often uses knitted fabrics with high elasticity. For example, in swimming clothing and cycling clothing, Lycra and tactel fabrics are used. The wear resistance of sportswear is also an extremely important indicator.
2. Comfort performance
After clothing is worn on the human body, a certain temperature and humidity environment is formed between the human body and the clothing. This environmental indicator and the physical and chemical performance indicators of the material determine the comfort level of the human body.
(1) Warmth performance
The good warmth retention properties of sportswear can prevent athletes from catching cold or frostbite in cold conditions, such as skiing, mountaineering and other sports. To improve the warmth of fabrics, use hollow fibers that can prevent cold air from entering and discharge moisture. You can also use some fabrics with far-infrared fibers themselves.
(2) Waterproof and breathable
Many modern sports are outdoor sports, which may expose athletes to wind and rain, such as mountain climbing, outdoor running, rowing and other sports, which require sportswear with good waterproof and breathable properties. Waterproof and breathable is the fabric‘s ability to prevent liquid water from passing through while allowing gaseous water to pass through. It not only prevents wind and rain but also ensures the dryness of the human body. At present, most fabrics on the market are made of high-count and high-density yarns, and there are also fabrics using membrane technology.
(3) Moisture wicking performance
Moisture wicking performance is an important performance indicator of modern sportswear. After a lot of exercise, if the sweat and heat generated by the human body cannot be absorbed and discharged in time, the human body will feel uncomfortable and even induce symptoms such as colds. Moisture wicking performance is achieved by changing the moisture absorption and moisture release properties of the fabric through fabric structural design or fiber modification, while also being water absorbent and quick-drying.
