Vocabulary and detailed explanations for various clothing samples/patterns
1. initial sample, proto sample
——The original, the first sample, the first sample. A sample made based on the design drawing. Or the factory’s own customers’ products can be used as reference styles for another customer. Generally refers to the samples required by customers to make samples for the factory. Mainly refer to style and craftsmanship. The fabrics and colors can be different, and fitting (fitting) is not too important, because there is a high chance that the size will change.
2. fitting sample
——Fit-on sample. Usually together with the size set sample (jumping code sample), it mainly depends on the effect of the model wearing it and the size (jumping code) issue.
If worn on a dummy, the balance of each part (including up and down, front and back, left and right). Is the HPS to waist long enough? Is the deep jump of the front and back collar reasonable? Is the loop jump enough? When the size is large, is the front length increased enough? Will the whole shirt be unbalanced from front to back, causing hiking, etc.
The factory provides paper patterns. If the fit is not good, you must check the pattern.
3. salesman sample, ShowRoom Sample
——Sales sample, also called big sample, street sample. Samples used by customers at trade fairs, or samples made for trial sale to customers before shipment, in order to obtain orders for new styles made previously through trade samples. Generally, sales samples are required to be of the same color and code. Almost everything that can be done in bulk products must be done, but sales samples can be modified in bulk products. The emphasis is on style and presentation.
4. photo sample
——Photography, photography. They are provided to customers as samples for model fitting and photography. Some of them are to be used as printed copies for reference in making color pictures for large-scale products. The main thing is to get the color and style right.
5. pp sample, pre-production sample
——bulk samples, pre-production samples. It is a sample before bulk production. It is mainly used for customers to confirm the shipment of bulk goods. This is the complete reference sample for large-scale products. Everything must meet the requirements, otherwise large-scale products may also be wrong. If the requirements are not met, the customer may ask for it several times until the requirements are met.
6. test sample
——Test sample. If some customers ask for testing, they need to do this. It mainly tests whether the washing water, color and environmental protection meet the customer’s requirements. It may also be done multiple times.
7. shipping sample, shipment sample
——The bow of a ship. It is mainly used as a reference for customers to ensure that the goods to be shipped are like this. It represents the quality of the entire batch of large goods, so the craftsmanship must be consistent with the large goods and the workmanship must be good.
8. counter sample
——Equivalent sample, also known as return sample. The factory produces the sample based on the proto sample provided by the customer and sends it back to the customer for confirmation. Mainly to confirm the style, workmanship, size, etc.
9. bulk sample
——Advance sample and pre-delivery sample. When using bulk fabrics, it mainly depends on whether there are any problems with the process, size, shrinkage, required machinery, etc. during bulk production. After the workshop is finished, it will be handed over to QC to check whether there are any problems with style, size, and workmanship, and then the The inspection report is provided to relevant departments such as the pattern, workshop, and washing department for reference. If there is a problem with the size after washing/ironing, corresponding modifications must be made to the pattern. The preliminary sample is not required by the customer, and does not need to be approved by the customer. The factory itself makes it for large-scale trials, but if the factory feels that the process needs to be changed in some areas, it will notify the follower to discuss with the customer, and changes can only be made after the customer agrees. Sometimes it is not necessary to make preliminary samples, such as copying orders (but if the bulk fabric is new, it is usually done to avoid changes in shrinkage).
Note: “Sample clothing”, also known as “model”, is called sample in English. In Cantonese, “ban” and “ban” have the same pronunciation, and the word “ban” is easier to write than the word “ban”, so Cantonese and Hong Kong people usually use “ban” to mean “sample clothes”. (The “ke” in “kese” = “black”, the same reason.)
