Xinxiang Huixian: Are textile factories okay now after rare floods?
Starting on July 20, a rare flood disaster hit the surrounding cities with Zhengzhou as the center. As far as the eye could see in the affected urban area, there was a vast ocean. This flood lasted for a long time and affected a wide range of areas. Guangzhou, the extent of the disaster was the highest since meteorological records began. People’s production and life were greatly affected, and the cotton spinning industry was not spared.
According to preliminary statistics, since July 16, heavy rainfall has affected 12.9074 million people in 1558 towns and towns in 150 counties (cities and districts) across the province. Xinxiang Huixian, a traditional textile gathering area, also suffered serious losses in this flood.
A person in charge of a textile enterprise in Huixian County said: “On July 22, the heavy rain began to fall non-stop. The accumulated rainwater level in the entire Huixian County continued to rise. Soon it began to penetrate into the factory area through the gaps in the wall. What’s more serious is the influx of water through the underground sewers in the factory area. Although the company actively took waterproofing measures, the factory area was surrounded by floods and could not stop the water from entering at all.”
Faced with such severe flooding, textile companies that had kept operating all year round and even did not take holidays during the Spring Festival were forced to suspend production. According to locals, there are millions of textile spindles in Huixian area, and cotton yarn sells well in other provinces and cities in China. The proportion of factories affected by the disaster is as high as 50%. Due to the high and low location of the enterprise, The problem is that the degree of damage is different.
It is understood that the cotton and cotton yarn warehouses and machinery and equipment in the factories of severely affected enterprises were all flooded, with direct losses amounting to tens of millions. Even enterprises that were less severely affected were faced with the dilemma of being unable to start operations in time.
Another person in charge of a textile company in Huixian County said that the current focus is on self-rescue work in production. After two days of continuous water pumping, all the water in the factory area has been drained, and the time is currently being seized to pull out the flooded cotton. Go to an open area to dry to prevent mildew and aggravate cotton deterioration. The above are explicit losses, and there are also some implicit losses. The cotton raw materials flooded this time were purchased at low prices in the early stage. Now continuing to purchase new flowers will undoubtedly increase production costs, because cotton prices have continued to rise for some time.
At the same time, the cotton yarn stored in the warehouse was also flooded. This loss is irreparable. Once the cotton yarn is flooded and soaked, it will be very difficult to use in subsequent processes. The person in charge said that now downstream customers have learned about our losses and some orders that cannot be delivered in time, and they generally express their understanding and support.
At present, the local floods have receded, and enterprises are doing their best to carry out self-rescue in production. Due to the heavy damage, workshop machinery and equipment and laboratories were soaked in water for about two days, and resumption of production still faces great difficulties.
The person in charge of a local textile company said that after a computer is soaked in water, it cannot be turned on immediately even if it is dried. Now the company is purchasing parts and components, replacing damaged parts, and starting work as soon as possible. Now the cotton yarn market continues to rise, and companies will suffer huge losses if they are delayed for one day.
In addition to the above reasons, the time for employees to return to work on time is also full of uncertainty. It is reported that the area affected by the disaster was large, and the company’s employees were all villagers from nearby villages. Almost all employees’ homes and farmland were flooded. All employees have gone home to fight the disaster and save losses. In addition, the disaster caused water to enter a lot of harvested wheat, and employees needed to dry it immediately to prevent mold and mildew. Corn and other crops that were submerged in water were seriously damaged and needed to be replanted with other crops. Due to the above reasons, employees are temporarily unable to return to work on time. This has also had a great impact on the normal resumption of production of enterprises.
According to the current situation, it is expected that it will take at least one month for Huixian textile companies to completely return to the production level before the disaster.
