Anhui: Typhoon “Fireworks” has little impact, but cotton is growing well
According to the Anhui Monitoring Station of the National Cotton Market Monitoring System, from July 26 to 27, affected by Typhoon No. 6 “Fireworks” this year, the main cotton producing area of Anqing, Anhui Province experienced intermittent rainfall, with moderate rainfall in some areas. The wind was not strong; the rain stopped and turned sunny on the 28th, and the temperature increased. According to local cotton farmers in Wangjiang and Susong, Anhui, the typhoon had limited impact on cotton growth. On the contrary, moderate rainfall met the water demand for cotton growth and development.
It is now the blooming and boll-bearing season of cotton fields. According to a follow-up survey of cotton growth in the main cotton-producing areas along the Yangtze River, although the cotton transplanting time this year is about a week later than last year, due to the short rainy season, suitable climate and adequate cotton field management , at present, the cotton growth overall is better than the same period last year. A good cotton plant is already 1.5 meters high, has about 15 fruit branches, and can bear nearly 20 bolls at most. Currently, the topping work of cotton farmers has been completed. According to Pan Jieqi, a cotton farmer in Leichi Township, Wangjiang County, “The growth of cotton plants in some cotton fields is very suitable for high yields. If there is no bad weather later, the cotton yield this year will be higher than last year.”
