EU cancels certificate of origin for imported fiber

The European Union announced on October 4 last year that it would exempt textiles exported to Japan from providing a certificate of origin or a declaration of origin, and it would be officially implemented 20 days after the date of announcement. This regulation is currently being implemented in an orderly manner.

The EU’s regulations requiring Japanese exports to provide certificates of origin originated in the 1970s, with the purpose of controlling the import quantity of textile products. After the EU lifted quantity controls, this regulation has not been lifted in order to prevent the inflow of counterfeit Japanese products. Now, Japanese textile products exported to the EU do not require certificate of origin and other related requirements in the FTA (free trade agreement) and preferential tariff system, and this system has finally been abolished.
