Mexico says employment in apparel industry drops %
This article published in the Mexican newspaper Reform on April 11 said that according to statistics from the Mexican National Statistics Institute, the annual employment rate in the Mexican textile and apparel industry has dropped by an average of 6% in the past five years. Among them, employment in the Mexican garment industry fell by 4% year-on-year in January this year.
The president of the Mexican Textile Chamber of Commerce said that underemployment is caused by many reasons. These include higher raw material costs, lower domestic demand and reduced production. In addition, unfair trade and low-price customs declarations have resulted in the illegal import of a large number of textile and clothing products, causing damage to similar industries in Mexico.
It is estimated that the situation will improve in the second half of this year, although the degree of recovery will be limited.
