Safety Committee approves genetically modified cotton cultivation
Sudan News reported that in accordance with the requirements of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Biosafety Technical Committee of the Sudan Center for Biotechnology and Safety has approved the planting of 120,000 feddans of genetically modified cotton, with 150,000 feddans determined for the next year.
The chairman of the committee believes that this planting of genetically modified cotton is a demonstration so that planting can be expanded in the future. Previously, two years of trial planting in agricultural research laboratories have proven that genetically modified cotton is resistant to various pests and diseases, its price is no different from ordinary cotton, and its cultivation cost is low.
