Third country yarn provisions postponed and extended
Since the U.S. Senate members insisted on performing regular procedures through parliamentary committees and the Congress failed to reach unanimous agreement on the extension of the third-country yarn clause, it is very likely that the third-country yarn clause will not be extended until it expires. The African delegation expressed frustration at this at the 2012 African Growth and Opportunity Act Forum, fearing that delaying the extension of the validity period would cause irreparable damage to the exports of the African textile industry.
Congress and the Senate reached a compromise, and the extension of the third-country yarn provisions of the African Growth and Opportunity Act will be considered together with the revision of the China-US Free Trade Area and new sanctions against Myanmar.
