Assessment of cotton growth and development status in Shache County and prediction of boll cracking and fluffing periods

From August 15th to 16th, the agronomic observation personnel of the Yarkand Bureau went deep into the fields to conduct a three-peach survey on cotton in high-yield fields, low-yield fields and crop observation areas, and summarized the results and reported them to relevant departments.

Since in early August, the cotton development period in Shache County was later than previous years and last year, this year’s peach survey results: the number of cotton peach at the measurement point was 3.0/plant, which was 0.9/plant less than in previous years. The number of peaches in high-yielding fields was 3.5 per plant, which was 0.8 less per plant than in previous years. The number of peaches before falling in low-yielding fields was 3.7/plant, which was 0.1/plant less than in previous years.

Agricultural personnel recommend that cotton farmers do a good job in field management and pest control in a timely manner. Cotton fields with poor soil moisture should be irrigated in a timely manner and water should be stopped at an appropriate time to ensure this year’s production.

Evaluation of agricultural meteorological conditions and cotton growth and development status: From the observation and growth status analysis of the development period from cotton sowing to early August in 2021, the meteorological conditions before the flowering period were worse than in previous years and last year, and the cotton development period progressed later than Over the past years and last year, the accumulated temperature after the flowering period has stabilized through 10℃ and 20℃, which is good for the later growth and development of cotton.

Forecast of the cotton boll cracking and bolling period: It is expected that the cotton boll cracking and bolling period in Shache County in 2021 will be earlier than previous years, close to or slightly earlier than last year. The initial period of cotton boll cracking is expected to be from August 24 to 28, and the general boll cracking period is expected. Around August 26th to September 4th, the initial period of spitting is from August 26th to September 6th, and the general period of spitting is from September 1st to September 10th.

Measures and Suggestions: From late August to early September, the average temperature is slightly higher and the precipitation is higher. Cotton farmers should strengthen cotton field management and pest and disease control.
