Hunan Phoenix: The purchase of silkworm cocoons brings a bumper harvest, and farmers embark on the “fast lane” to get rich
Now is the time when silkworm cocoons are on the market. On September 2, the sixth batch of silkworm cocoons on-site purchase meeting in Fenghuang County, Hunan Province in 2021 was held in Laershan Town, attracting farmers from various villages to come to sell. More than 3,000 kilograms of silkworm cocoons in the town were sold out.
Early in the morning, silkworm farmers came to the purchasing station and neatly stacked bags of white silkworm cocoons in a row. After opening the bags, the cocoons pouring out were piled up like mountains. The acquisition of silkworm cocoons has begun. The staff carefully inspected, weighed, framed, and kept accounts the cocoons, and tried their best to provide the acquisition service. It is understood that this year’s silkworms are growing well, and the cocoons produced have high yields, thick cocoon layers, and highquality. After selling the cocoons, the silkworm farmers counted the cash directly on site, and their faces were filled with the joy of a good harvest.
Long Genfa, a mulberry farmer in Bagou Village, Laershan Town, sold 121 kilograms of silkworm cocoons today, earning a total of more than 3,100 yuan. He said with a smile: “I have 7 acres of land at home, and I started to set it aside for the sericulture industry last year. , this industry is not tiring and very relaxing. I can earn some living expenses by myself without having children to bear the burden. I can also earn 20,000 yuan a year.”
Whether the industry is good or not depends on the people. The silkworm cocoon industry has obvious benefits, and many surrounding villagers have begun to join the ranks of sericulture. Wu Jihua, a sericulture farmer in Banla Village, Laershan Town, saw that several villagers in the same village had relatively good returns from the industry, so he also joined the sericulture this year. He said: ” Our company and government in Laershan have given great support to this industry. I think this industry will develop very well in the future. My income is expected to be more than 50,000 yuan this year.”
In order to encourage silkworm farmers to actively raise silkworms, Laershan Town also provides corresponding technical guidance and appropriate policy subsidies to silkworm farmers. It is understood that up to now, Laershan Town has developed a sericulture industry of more than 2,000 acres and raised a total of 30 silkworms. With this acquisition, the town’s silkworm farmers sold more than 3,000 kilograms of cocoons. Due to the improvement in the cocoon and silk market this year, the price of silkworm cocoons has increased compared with the same period last year. The average purchase price of each kilogram of silkworm cocoons is around 49 yuan, and the total income of silkworm farmers is expected to reach more than 700,000 yuan.
