Shaya: Cotton production has declined and the scale is expected to be opened in mid-October
As new cotton comes on the market, the picking and purchasing of seed cotton in Xinjiang has begun. As of now, the purchase of seed cotton in Xinjiang Shaya region has not yet started.
A local cotton farmer said that most of the local cotton fields are currently undergoing the second defoliant spraying work, and the scale opening is expected to be around mid-October this year.
It is understood that this cotton farmer planted 700 acres of cotton this year, all of which were machine-picked cotton. The output was 400 kilograms per mu, which was about 100 kilograms per mu lower than last year. Analyzing the reasons for the decline in yield, the main reason is that the sowing period was affected by low temperature, hail and other bad weather, and some cotton fields were re-seeded and replanted. So far, the cotton farmer’s main work is to spray defoliants and remove weeds in the field to prepare for later machine harvesting. Regarding the selling price, the cotton farmer said that he hopes the price of machine-picked cotton will be 8 yuan/kg this year.
