According to reports, the country’s first joint laboratory for new materials application in power grids located in Ningbo, Zhejiang, announced that they have developed a new coating using the new material graphene, which will be used in the power grid field. In the future, the anti-corrosion and anti-icing capabilities of transmission line towers will be greatly improved. promote.
The laboratory’s R&D team is led by a number of experts from the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It mainly studies the application of various new materials in the field of anti-corrosion and anti-icing of transmission wires. The graphene heavy-duty anti-corrosion material developed this time fills the gap in domestic power grid anti-corrosion coating technology. Public information shows that there are a large number of chemical plants in coastal areas, high levels of sulfur-containing waste gas in the air, and severe salt spray corrosion. As a result, coastal transmission poles and towers corrode 3 to 5 times faster than in inland areas, increasing maintenance costs and increasing Grid operation risks. Pu Jibin, a member of the R&D team and a researcher at the Ningbo Institute of Materials, Chinese Academy of Sciences, said that the main heavy-duty anti-corrosion coating currently on the market is zinc-rich primer, which not only has a short protective life, but also uses a large amount of zinc, is a waste of resources, and is contrary to the concept of environmental protection. The zinc content in graphene heavy anti-corrosion coatings only accounts for 20% or even zero, and its performance is at least twice as high.
Pu Jibin introduced that the theoretical thickness of graphene is only 0.3 nanometers, and its barrier properties are very good. It can almost block water, oxygen, and sodium ions. The anti-corrosion life can be greatly extended without increasing the thickness of the heavy-duty anti-corrosion coating. This is the characteristic of long-term anti-corrosion.
Pu Jibin said that currently 70% of the domestic high-end anti-corrosion coating market is occupied by foreign brands. The application of new graphene materials in the power grid field will break the international monopoly. At present, this new coating has entered the market promotion stage, with an estimated annual output of about 5,000 tons.
The R&D team also announced that another anti-icing coating has been successfully developed and is awaiting further testing. Every year, low-temperature rain, snow and freezing disasters occur almost every year in southern provinces of my country, resulting in varying degrees of freezing and icing on high-voltage transmission lines, affecting transmission safety. Pu Jibin said that the super-hydrophobic coating anti-icing technology they studied can be “grafted” to power towers and even transmission lines. “Water cannot spread on the surface, but forms water droplets, just like on a lotus leaf, so there is less ice coating; in addition, the base made of this material has very weak adhesion, and it will be slightly blown by the wind. Shake and the ice falls down under the influence of gravity. ”
