Ma Tao, chairman of the cooperative, said that based on the current harvest situation, the cooperative’s average yield per mu is about 450 kilograms, and it is expected to complete picking within 40 days.
The reporter learned that at present, cotton harvesting has begun in some cotton areas in northern Xinjiang. It is expected that by early October, major cotton areas in northern and southern Xinjiang will enter a large-scale concentrated harvesting period.
A survey conducted by the China Cotton Association in August found that although Xinjiang cotton experienced widespread freezing damage during the sowing and seedling stage this year, and the growth period was delayed, the weather was stable in July and August, the temperature in most cotton areas was high, and the growth of cotton plants accelerated. , coupled with proper field management, a bumper harvest is expected.

In recent years, Xinjiang has promoted the transformation of cotton production from decentralized management by small farmers to intensive mechanized management. In 2020, the mechanical picking rate of cotton in Xinjiang (including Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps) reached 75%.
