The diameter of water vapor molecules is generally 4×10-4um, and the diameter of raindrops is usually 10-2um. As long as the diameter of the gaps in the fabric is controlled so that water vapor molecules can pass through but raindrops cannot, it will be waterproof and breathable.
The purpose of fabric waterproofing finishing:
First, it prevents water from wetting the fabric, and uses the additional pressure of the capillary of the fabric to prevent the passage of liquid water, but still maintains the breathability of the fabric; widely used in protective clothing, military uniforms, travel bags, tents, etc.
