China Cotton Institute 703 achieves high-yield breakthrough in Kashgar region
Recently, an acceptance expert group composed of 7 experts from the Cotton Branch of China Seed Association, Xinjiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Southwest University and other units conducted field yield testing and identification of cotton demonstration fields in Jiashi County, Kashgar Prefecture, Xinjiang. The results It shows that the average seed cotton yield of the high-quality and high-yielding conventional strain “China Cotton Research Institute 703” demonstration field reached 545.8 kg/mu, and the highest seed cotton yield reached 612.0 kg/mu. What is more worth mentioning is that the fiber quality test conducted by the Cotton Quality Supervision, Inspection and Testing Center of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs found that the average fiber length is 35.6 mm, the breaking specific strength is 33.7cN/tex, and the micronaire value is 4.3. This means that “China Cotton Institute 703” achieves both high output and high quality.
According to reports, in recent years, my country’s average annual output of high-quality cotton has been 1.22 million tons, and the average annual demand is about 2.7 million tons, with a gap as high as 55%. The stable supply of high-quality cotton has become a key link in the sustainable development of my country’s cotton industry. The “Chinese Cotton Research Institute 703” jointly developed by the Cotton Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Donghua University, Zhengzhou University, etc. is a high-quality, high-yielding conventional strain that meets the needs of the cotton industry. Researcher Yuan Youlu of the Cotton Research Institute said that with the strong support of the Kashgar Agricultural Technology Promotion Center, Jiashi County Agricultural and Rural Bureau and Xinjiang Zhongnong Shenke Agricultural Science and Technology Development Co., Ltd., “China Cotton Research Institute 703” will be held in Gule, Jiashi County in 2021 Luke Township demonstration area covers 350 acres.
Due to the unique light and hot water resources, Xinjiang cotton has high yield and excellent quality. In 2020, Xinjiang’s total cotton output accounted for 87.3% of the country’s total cotton output, accounting for more than 20% of the world’s cotton output. The expert group unanimously believed that “China Cotton Research Institute 703” has the characteristics of good disease resistance, strong stress resistance, good early maturity, excellent yield, and outstanding quality.
