Tongxiang Shimen Dongchi Village welcomes a bumper harvest of silkworm cocoons in late autumn
It is the time to buy silkworm cocoons in late autumn. Recently, the last batch of late autumn golden silkworm cocoons harvested at the Silkworm Silkworm Base in Dongchi Village, Shimen Town, Tongxiang City. When I walked into the greenhouse at the base, I saw golden cocoons everywhere, and the faces of the silkworm farmers picking the cocoons were full of joyful smiles.
“During the silkworm breeding period in late autumn this year, the temperature was suitable and there were generally few silkworm diseases. The mulberry trees in the mulberry garden were growing well and there were plenty of silkworm leaves. Therefore, this batch of late autumn cocoons had a high yield per unit area and a thick silkworm layer. From the perspective of yield andThe quality seems to be good.” According to Zhu Yiming, deputy secretary of the Dongchi Village Party Committee, this year, Dongchi Village distributed more than 400 silkworm seeds in late autumn and collected 19 tons of silkworm cocoons. The average purchase price of silkworm cocoons is 42 yuan per kilogram, an increase of 5% compared with the same period last year.
The increase in purchase prices undoubtedly makes silkworm farmers happy.
“My batch of cocoons in late autumn are very good, big and thick. The purchase price has also increased this year, and the harvest is much better than last year.” Zhong Xuelun, a farmer from Tangxiang Group in Dongchi Village, is delivering cocoons to the cocoon station. , couldn’t hide his inner joy, “Since the establishment of the co-breeding room for small silkworms in the village, it has saved us a lot of worry. When raising large silkworms, the village will contact experts for technical guidance. Next year, I plan to raise two more silkworms. because I believe that with the development and progress of agricultural technology, sericulture will definitely bring more considerable income.”
Tongxiang is the main sericulture production area in Zhejiang Province. Dongchi Village is also the province’s largest silkworm co-breeding base and the Ministry of Commerce’s large-scale intensive high-quality cocoon demonstration base. Mulberry planting and sericulture are also Dongchi Village’s unique income-increasing projects.
Since 2019, under the leadership of government departments, the Dongchi Village Sericulture Base has launched a group business model of “sericulture leading enterprises + cooperatives + base farmers”, led by Zhejiang Huafeng Silk Industry Co., Ltd. and Dongchi Sericulture Cooperative , through the “order sericulture group management” model and the construction of the entire sericulture industry chain, implement the optimization and transformation of mulberry gardens, and integrate the intelligent breeding of small silkworms and the labor-saving breeding of large silkworms , multiple batches of silkworm breeding throughout the year, hybrid mulberry herbal breeding of silkworms and other new sericulture technologies have radiated 3,379 farmers in neighboring villages, covering an area of 8,514 acres of mulberry gardens, helping sericulture farmers increase their income.
“We hope that through the ‘Sericulture Group’, we can build a large-scale and intensive high-quality silkworm cocoon production demonstration base, effectively empower rural revitalization while continuously promoting the high-quality development of the sericulture industry, and make farmers’ pockets bigger and bigger.” Zhu Yiming said.
Now we have entered the autumn and winter mulberry garden management stage. Dongchi Village currently has 1,680 acres of fine mulberry gardens. Next, the Dongchi Village Silkworm Silkworm Base will carry out garden cleaning and pruning work, and at the same time, we will take care of overwintering diseases and pests in the mulberry gardens. Comprehensive prevention and control work should be carried out to reduce the number of overwintering pests and diseases as much as possible. In addition, the greenhouses at the base will be comprehensively cleaned and disinfected to lay the foundation for a bumper harvest of silkworms next spring.
