Openness and integration help my country’s textile and apparel industry stabilize and strengthen its chain
At present, the epidemic is still spreading repeatedly, the world economic recovery is fragile, climate change challenges are prominent, regional hot issues occur frequently, and the global manufacturing system, innovation system, and governance system are facing profound adjustments. Sun Ruizhe, president of the ChinaTextile Industry Federation, pointed out that as a highly globalized economic field, the development of the textile and apparel industry is deeply related to the world economy. To cope with changes, we need to analyze industries, clarify general trends, pragmatically innovate and create a future together within the larger picture of the world economy.
The textile industry is highly resilient
Weak world economic growth increases the instability and fragility of the recovery. Rising global inflation, exchange rate fluctuations, and high debt have seriously impacted the stable operation of industrial and supply chains. In the face of abnormal changes and shocks, countries with system advantages are showing greater competitive advantages and development resilience. The higher the developmentquality, the better the industrial supporting facilities, and the stronger the economic stability. The IMF predicts that the total output of advanced economies is expected to return to pre-epidemic trend levels in 2022. By 2024, total output in emerging market and developing economies (excluding China) will still be 5.5% below pre-pandemic forecasts.
At the same time, global supply chain cooperation has changed, and localization and regionalization have been continuously strengthened. In recent years, multilateral economic and trade rules have fallen into governance difficulties, and globalization has evolved in a new form of regionalization. The deepening of regional cooperation has triggered the restructuring of the industrial landscape, and the shortening and internalization of global value chains has accelerated. “From the overall trend, the balance of power to the logic of division of labor, the structural adjustment of the global value chain continues to accelerate.” Sun Ruizhe recently introduced when attending the 2021 Fourth World Textile Merchant Conference in Shaoxing, Zhejiang. In 2020, China’s textile industry will have an impact on the Mekong River Basin. The amount of investment accounts for 37% of the industry’s total external investment. With the support of regional industrial cooperation, economies such as Vietnam and Bangladesh have continuously consolidated and strengthened their positions in the global textile and apparel industry chain.
The textile and apparel industry is closely related to high-level openness. It connects the domestic market and international circulation, integrates national culture and global culture, and plays an irreplaceable role in supporting economic development and stabilizing foreign trade. WTO data shows that China’s textile and clothing exports in 2020 ranked first in the world.
Facing the profound changes in the global value chain, China’s textile industry has shown strong resilience and vitality and achieved stable and healthy development. From January to September this year, the quality and efficiency of the development of the textile industry have steadily improved. The industrial added value of enterprises above designated size in the industry increased by 6.3% year-on-year, operating income increased by 15.6% year-on-year, and total profits increased by 31.7% year-on-year. The industry’s exports maintained a good growth momentum. Textile and apparel exports reached US$227.59 billion, a year-on-year increase of 5.6%.
Digital green trend shows
Driven by a new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation, the factor resources and power system of global industrial development are undergoing trend changes. Sun Ruizhe reminded industry companies to pay attention to the formation of a new civilization with digital economy and green development as the core.
As the focus of the digital economy shifts to the industrial Internet, the platform economy has become an important support for the manufacturing industry to achieve digital transformation, intelligent upgrading, and integrated innovation. The digital economy is becoming an important concern for global industrial policy and market supervision. The world is accelerating the establishment of systems and norms around data resource property rights, transaction circulation, cross-border transmission, security protection and other fields. Digital empowerment is also driving the rapid amplification and strengthening of manufacturing advantages.
On the other hand, green development has become a global consensus. From materials, energy, manufacturing to recycling, green technology is being deeply integrated into all aspects of the industrial value chain, and green has become an important source of value and an important direction for investment. More and more consumers are beginning to examine the value of products from the dimensions of environmental protection and social responsibility. The value concept of green consumption is accelerating in the process of consumption upgrading. IBM research shows that 84% of consumers around the world value sustainability more when choosing brands.
“Amidst the changes in the economic and technological structure and the reconstruction of value evaluation rules, China’s textile industry is exploring the value fulcrum to leverage the future and promote common prosperity and win-win cooperation with high-quality development.” Sun Ruizhe said, China Textile The industry continues to consolidate the manufacturing foundation and improve the entire industry chain manufacturing system from fiber material production, textile dyeing and finishing processing to end product manufacturing. The stability and competitiveness of the industry chain continue to improve, and strengthentechnology Innovation, focusing on basic innovation and application innovation, and striving to improve the support capabilities of building a modern industrial chain. In terms of cluster development, China Textile Federation has built a total of 206 industrial clusters on a pilot basis in 20 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities across the country. Among them, the annual sales of 10 clusters will exceed 100 billion yuan in 2020. While improving the level of cluster intensification and specialization, China’s textile industry continues to promote the integration and innovation of digital economy and clusters. Taking Keqiao District of Shaoxing City as an example, as the world’s largest textile trade gathering place and printing and dyeing processing gathering area, as of the end of 2020, Keqiao has cultivated more than 1,400 cross-bordere-commerceenterprise.
“Facing the new development situation, China’s textile industry must adhere to the principles of consultation, joint contribution, and sharing, adhere to the concept of openness and green development, and create a more complete innovation system, a higher-quality manufacturing system, and a more integrated market. system and a more responsible ecological system to promote the common prosperity of global industries.” Sun Ruizhe emphasized that an open, inclusive, transparent and diverse global market should be built with all-round industrial interconnection, mutual trust and mutual benefit; more attention should be paid to trade coordination and continuous Expand trade scale and optimize trade structure; focus on inclusive and quality consumer demand, and continue to enrich product categories. At the same time, relying on free trade zones, free trade ports and other opening-up vehicles, vigorously develop new trade models such as cross-border e-commerce; we must pay more attention to resource coordination and promote cross-regional cooperation; Promote the flow of data, personnel, technology, products, funds and other resources on a larger scale and in wider fields to achieve higher quality and more efficient resource allocation.
