Xiangyun County, Yunnan Province “Insect mouth wins gold” helps sericulture farmers increase income
Groups of professional and technical personnel moved from the county town to the countryside, boxes of pesticides moved from stores to mulberry fields, and centralized dispensing points were bustling with people coming and going. Since the implementation of the “Insects to Win Gold” campaign on November 22, Xiangyun County, Yunnan Province has carried out the unified prevention and control of sericulture pests and diseases by “eliminating wild silkworms, eliminating overwintering eggs, and eradicating pathogens”. In order to answer “Dali’s question” and help rural areas Revitalize and lay a solid foundation for increasing the income of silkworm farmers.
“The most serious insect pest in recent years is wild silkworms, especially in mulberry gardens on the roadside. The mulberry trees have been eaten and become hairy.” According to Dong Qingchang, an agricultural technician in Songmei Village, Liuchang Town, Xiangyun County, Songmei Village Mulberry planting and sericulture have a long history. With the establishment of the national “One Village, One Product” sericulture demonstration village, the scale of mulberry planting and sericulture has continued to expand, and there are more and more silkworm excrements. In order not to affect the creation of beautiful countryside, silkworm excrement is basically returned to the fields without being decomposed, causing the proliferation of wild silkworms and serious silkworm diseases.
This problem exists not only in Songmei Village, but also in 10 towns and 97 mulberry-growing and silk-raising villages in the county. However, the control of pests and diseases in mulberry fields is a highly technical task. When to apply pesticides, how to apply them, and how much to apply are all very particular.
Anyone who has planted mulberry trees and raised silkworms knows that silkworms are notorious for dying from poison. During the period of sericulture, especially in contiguous mulberry orchards, sericulture farmers basically only dare to use fungicides. As for insecticides, they have been put on the shelf since the day of sericulture. Seeing the proliferation of wild silkworms in mulberry orchards, one can only look at the insects and sigh. Because any trace of pesticide residue may cause poisoning of silkworms, ranging from failure to spin silk and cocoons to death of silkworms, causing immeasurable losses.
As the saying goes, “Three measures are taken and seven measures are taken care of. Only by taking unified precautions in winter can we be safe.” From November every year to March of the following year, there is a gap period for sericulture, and it is also a golden period to strengthen the management of winter plowing in mulberry fields.
“Only by grasping the time, selecting the right pesticide, applying enough water, and spraying the right area can the control effect be improved.” According to professional technicians at the Xiangyun County Tea Mulberry Workstation, silkworm farmers have varying abilities to understand and receive professional knowledge. It is not realistic for everyone to have timely and comprehensive knowledge on pest control in mulberry fields, so an effective way to solve these problems is to promote the implementation of unified prevention and control.
For several days in a row, technicians from Xiangyun Changxin Trading Co., Ltd. were busy delivering, dispensing, and distributing medicines at the four dispensing points in groups in Songmei Village from morning to night.
“We don’t need to pay, we just need to carry our own medicine bucket, and the technician will help us prepare the medicine and dilute it to the right concentration.” A group of silkworm farmers in Songmei Village own Bingkuo’s mulberry garden of 28 acres, a When he heard that the unified control of pests and diseases in mulberry fields had begun, he was the first to arrive at the dispensing point every day. He said, “The biggest advantage of the unified control is that everyone sprays pesticides together to reduce cross-infection of pests and diseases, and it can completely eliminate pests and survive the winter.” Insect eggs and silkworm worms will promote an increase in mulberry leaf production in the coming year.”
It is understood that Xiangyun County, in conjunction with the launch of the “Questions of Dali” discussion event, organized county and rural sericulture professional and technical personnel to hold 2 symposiums with 162 participants to sort out key issues in the development of the sericulture industry and target In response to the outstanding problems of pests and diseases in mulberry orchards and silkworms, in accordance with the “three unifications” model of “unified time, unified procurement, and unified technology”, we organized and implemented unified prevention and control of mulberry orchards and pests in 5,000 acres, and the environment was disinfected four times before sericulture.
A sample survey of 80 acres of mulberry gardens of 10 households showed that the implementation of unified control resulted in an average increase of 101 kilograms of mulberry leaves per mu. Calculated at 0.2 yuan/kg, the income from mulberry leaves increased by 202 yuan per mu; each silkworm The average cocoon production increased by 1.83 kilograms. Based on this year’s average price of 54.01 yuan/kg, the fresh cocoon income per mu increased by 98.8 yuan.
