Anhui Yingshang: Disaster-affected silkworm farmers received compensation of 973,200 yuan

On November 26, an on-site sericulture insurance claims meeting in Fuyang City, Anhui Province was held in Gengpeng Town, Yingshang County. Guoyuan Insurance Fuyang Middle Branch distributed disaster compensation on-site to more than 200 representatives of disaster-stricken silkworm farmers.

When mentioning the loss situation, Wu Baoshen, a villager in Gengpeng Town, Yingshang County, couldn’t help but sigh. The 58-year-old contracted 120 acres of land in the village to plant mulberry trees and built 60 breeding greenhouses of 600 square meters to raise silkworms. “If nothing happens this year, the sales will be more than 200,000 yuan.” Wu Baoshen said that the silkworms raised this year were poisoned for unknown reasons, and some died. Many farmers suffered “heavy losses.” Fortunately, when the silkworm insurance was underwritten, he bought insurance for all 85 silkworms he had raised and paid a total of 320 yuan in insurance premiums. During this insurance claim, he received 13,216 yuan in compensation, effectively stopping his losses.

In 2021, a total of 10,470.5 autumn silkworm insurances were purchased, with 1,431 insured farmers paying a premium of 41,882 yuan, including a total premium of 209,410 yuan in financial subsidies at all levels, and 938 households with a compensation amount of 973,195.99 yuan, with a simple compensation rate of 464.73%.
