Overview of national fabric exports
According to China Customs statistics, the national fabric import and export volume in 2015 was 42.15 billion meters, a year-on-year increase of 1.8%; the import and export volume was US$61.16 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 0.9%. Among them, the export quantity was 39.07 billion meters, a year-on-year increase of 2.8%; the export value was 54.8 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 0.7%; the average export unit price was 1.4 US dollars/kg, a year-on-year decrease of 2%. The import quantity was 3.08 billion meters, a year-on-year decrease of 8.5%; the import value was US$6.36 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 12.2%; the average import unit price was US$2.07/meter, a year-on-year decrease of 4%.
1. Fabric exports increased in December.
In December, the national fabric export volume was 3.52 billion meters, a year-on-year increase of 5%; the export value was US$4.92 billion, a year-on-year increase of 1.2%. Among them, the export value of cotton cloth was US$1.25 billion, an increase of 5.8%. The export value of silk woven fabrics, wool animal hair woven fabrics and chemical fiber woven fabrics were US$60 million, US$40 million and US$1.83 billion respectively, with declines of 22.2%, 10.8% and 1% respectively.
2. In 2015, exports to ASEAN and North America increased, while exports to Hong Kong, Japan, Latin America and the European Union declined.
In 2015, Asia was the main market for China’s fabric exports, accounting for 65.5% of China’s fabric exports. The export volume was US$35.91 billion, a year-on-year increase of 3.6%. In 2015, exports to ASEAN grew relatively steadily, with the export volume reaching 9.53 billion meters, a year-on-year increase of 8.8%; the export value was US$16.47 billion, an increase of 11.3%. Among them, exports to Vietnam increased most significantly, with exports of 8.16 billion, an increase of 14.6%; exports to Malaysia, Cambodia and Myanmar also increased to varying degrees, with exports of 1 billion, 1.66 billion and 740 million US dollars respectively, an increase of 8.8%, 4.6% and 10%.
In 2015, China’s fabric exports to Hong Kong were US$3.95 billion, a decrease of 11.6%. Exports to Bangladesh, Pakistan and India all increased to varying degrees, with export values reaching US$3.77 billion, US$1.84 billion and US$1.27 billion respectively, with increases of 13.6%, 3.4% and 4.9%.
In 2015, China’s fabric exports to Japan were US$470 million, a decrease of 14.2%. Exports to North America increased, with export value reaching US$2.13 billion, an increase of 5.8%. Exports to the EU and Latin America declined, with export values reaching US$3.81 billion and US$4.74 billion, down 6.8% and 9.5% respectively.
3. The export price of fabrics dropped.
In 2015, the export price of fabrics was US$1.4/meter, a year-on-year decrease of 2%. The export price of fabrics to Asia was US$1.59/meter, down 0.6% year-on-year; the export prices of fabrics to the EU and Latin American markets were US$1.42/meter and US$1.08/meter respectively, down 4.8% and 3.1% respectively. The export price of cotton cloth decreased, to 1.69 US dollars/meter, a slight decrease of 0.1%; the export prices of silk woven fabrics, wool animal hair woven fabrics and chemical fiber fabrics all decreased, to 5.62 US dollars/meter, 7.41 US dollars/meter and 1.12 US dollars respectively. USD/meter fell by 3.1%, 2.9% and 1.3% respectively.

1. Product exports in Türkiye’s safeguard measures case in 2015
In 2015, China’s textile and apparel exports to Turkey were US$1.98 billion, down 18.4% year-on-year, accounting for 0.7% of China’s total global textile and apparel exports, ranking 34th in China’s single export market. Among them, the export value of products under safeguard measures was US$840 million, a year-on-year decrease of 24.6%, accounting for 42.4% of China’s total textile and apparel exports to Turkey.
Among the products subject to safeguard measures, fabric exports amounted to US$400 million, a year-on-year decrease of 27.4%, accounting for 47.6% of China’s total exports of products subject to safeguard measures to Turkey. The value of clothing exports was US$270 million, a year-on-year decrease of 23.3%, accounting for 32.1% of China’s total exports of products subject to safeguard measures against Turkey.
2. Export of products under Indonesian safeguard measures
In 2015, China’s textile and apparel exports to Indonesia were US$3.98 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 14.4%, accounting for 1.4% of China’s total global textile and apparel exports, ranking 20th in China’s single export market. Among them, the export value of products (fabrics) subject to safeguard measures was US$30 million, a year-on-year decrease of 21.3%, accounting for 0.8% of China’s total textile and apparel exports to Indonesia.
