Mexican cotton exports encounter cold winter
According to a report by Mexico’s “Reforma” on February 1, the large global cotton inventory has caused Asian countries to reduce imports, thus affecting cotton production and sales in Mexico’s cotton-producing areas of Baja California and Sonora. Currently, these two states store some of the cotton produced in 2014 and all of the cotton in 2015. The two states have a total cotton production of 32,200 tons, 70% of which is exported to the Japanese company Toyo Cotton. At present, the company is unable to fulfill the contract because it has no place to place the cotton. Some local farmers said they would reduce the cotton planting area by half this year.
