EU issues consumer warning on Chinese-made children’s suits
On March 18, 2016, the European Commission’s Rapid Alert System for Non-Food Products (RAPEX) issued a consumer warning on the Chinese-made “Arino” brand children’s suit. The notifying country in this case is Hungary. The product notified this time is a clothing set for boys, including a hoodie and a pair of shorts. The hoodie has a zipper on the front and an adjustable drawstring on the hood; the shorts also have an adjustable drawstring on the waist. The set comes with some prints. Sizes include 134, 140 and 152. The style/model of the above product is: 94023. The barcode is 2010040940233. The product’s industry classification code (OECD Portal Category) is 67000000 (clothing).
The above-mentioned children’s suits may cause injury and suffocation risks to children. The drawstrings on the hood of hoodies and the drawstrings on the waist of shorts may trap children during activities, posing a risk of injury and suffocation. This product does not comply with the relevant European standard EN14682.
At present, the Hungarian authorities have taken compulsory measures to withdraw from the market and recall the above-mentioned products.
