In December 2015, clothing exports increased in a single month, and the cumulative decline for the whole year narrowed. According to customs statistics, in December alone, clothing exports reached US$17.09 billion, an increase of 7.4%. From January to December 2015, clothing exports were US$174.35 billion, down 6.4%. At the same time, export volume fell by 4.2%, and the average export price fell by 2.3%.
1. Except for the United States, exports to other major markets have shown a downward trend
In 2015, my country’s clothing exports to the United States maintained steady growth, with exports worth US$35.75 billion, an increase of 6.9%, accounting for 20.5% of the country’s total clothing exports. Clothing exports to the three major markets of the EU, Japan and ASEAN are all showing a downward trend, with export values reaching US$41.15 billion, US$17.3 billion and US$14.6 billion respectively, with declines of 10.3%, 12.2% and 12.5% respectively, accounting for 23.6% of the country’s total clothing exports. %, 9.9% and 7%.
Among other markets, clothing exports to Russia dropped significantly, by 30.1%, while exports to South Korea and the United Arab Emirates maintained rapid growth, with an increase of between 14% and 16%.
2. The export volume of all major categories of clothing decreased
In 2015, woven clothing exports were US$75 billion, a decrease of 3.4%, and the export volume increased by 2.6%. Knitted apparel exports were US$73.79 billion, down 9.7%, and export volume fell 11.4%. Fur leather apparel exports were US$2.56 billion, down 23.5%, and export volume fell by 22.1%.
3. Among the top five export provinces and cities, only Guangdong maintains growth
From January to December, among the top five provinces and cities in apparel exports, Guangdong’s exports continued to grow and ranked first, with an export volume of US$39.64 billion, an increase of 9%. Exports from Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Fujian and Shanghai all declined, with the decline ranging from 2% to 10%. Among other provinces and cities, except for Guangxi, Qinghai, and Beijing, the exports of other provinces and cities all declined.
