EU issues consumer warning on children’s sweatshirts made in China
On May 13, 2016, the European Commission’s Rapid Early Warning System for Non-Food Products (RAPEX) issued a consumer warning (alert number: A12/0576/16) on Chinese-made “GUANDAYUAN” brand children’s sweatshirts. The notifying country in this case is Hungary. The product notified this time is a children’s sweatshirt with black sleeves and a red body, with a zipper and a hood. The hood has one or two drawstrings knotted at the ends. There are various decorative texts on the sweatshirts, and the sizes are 140~170. The product style/model is F21-193. Barcode unknown. The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development industry classification code (OECD Portal Category) is 67000000-Clothing (clothing).
The drawstring with a free end on the hood of the above products can easily become entangled during children’s activities, leading to the risk of strangulation. This product does not comply with the requirements of the relevant EU standard EN14682.
At present, the Hungarian authorities have taken measures to recall the above products from consumers and the market.
