-Xinjiang’s foreign trade grew against the trend, textile and clothing exports reached 1.1 billion
The latest data released by Urumqi Customs shows that from January to April, Xinjiang’s total foreign trade import and export value increased by 17.1% compared with the same period last year.
Data show that in the first four months of this year, Xinjiang’s total foreign trade import and export value was 31.92 billion yuan. Among them, exports were 27.74 billion yuan, an increase of 17.9%; imports were 4.17 billion yuan, an increase of 12.3%; the trade surplus was 23.57 billion yuan, an increase of 18.9%. In April, Xinjiang’s total import and export value reached 11.81 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 28.2% and a month-on-month increase of 56.6%.
From a country perspective, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan are still the main trading partners, and the import and export trade volume of the four countries accounts for more than 60%. In addition, Xinjiang’s import and export trade value with the United States, Russia, Canada, the United Kingdom and other countries has grown rapidly compared with the same period last year, with the growth rate more than doubling.
From the perspective of products, exports are dominated by traditional labor-intensive products such as mechanical and electrical products and clothing and footwear. Among them, Xinjiang’s clothing and textile exports have become the highlights, with a total export of 7.84 billion yuan, accounting for nearly 30% of the total export value. Imports mainly include mechanical and electrical products, agricultural products, and textile machinery and parts.
Du Lei, chief of the Supervision and Analysis Section of the Urumqi Customs Statistics Office, analyzed that the role of favorable policies introduced by the country and the autonomous region, as well as the dividends released by supply-side structural reforms, were the main reasons for Xinjiang’s trade growth in the first four months. The General Administration of Customs has successively issued 25 and 19 measures and related supporting suggestions. The Xinjiang cross-border e-commerce development platform and the implementation of the “National Sword” special campaign to combat smuggling have stimulated the endogenous driving force for the development of Xinjiang’s foreign trade industry and promoted the steady growth of foreign trade. Large apparel companies have achieved profitability and are showing signs of recovery, boosting Xinjiang’s foreign trade exports.
