EU issues consumer warning on Chinese boys’ swimming trunks
On July 1, 2016, the European Commission’s Rapid Early Warning System for Non-Food Products (RAPEX) issued a consumer warning (alert number: A12/0808/16) for Chinese-made “TrendyBoy” brand boys’ swimming trunks. The notifying country in this case is Spain. The products reported this time are 4 types of boys’ swimming trunks, with sample sizes 0M-6M, 1-2, 2-4, 4-6. The product numbers are 477, 478, 480 and 493 respectively. The barcodes are 5553724144772, 5553724144789, 5553724144802 and 5553724144932. The OECD industry classification code is 67000000 – Clothing.
The functional cords at the waist of the above-mentioned swimming trunks are too long and may become entangled during children’s activities, causing the risk of injury to children. This product does not comply with the requirements of the relevant European standard EN14682.
At present, the Spanish authorities have taken measures to delist the above products.
