According to a report by the Financial Express on July 7, despite the recent terrorist attacks on Bangladesh, it is still regarded as an important partner by Japanese clothing manufacturers. Due to rising labor costs in China, Japan has moved its clothing production to Bangladesh and other Asian countries. Bangladesh has thus become a production base for Japanese and Western garment companies, and its exports have grown significantly. According to data from the Japan Textile Importers Association, 65% of Japan’s imported textiles came from China in 2015. Historically, China’s textile imports once accounted for nearly 80%. However, due to factors such as rising labor costs, this proportion has been declining year by year, while Japan’s imports from countries such as Vietnam and Indonesia have been increasing year by year. Although Bangladesh only accounts for 2.3% of Japan’s total textile imports, its annual growth rate is as high as 20-40%.
