Uzbekistan’s 1st International Cotton and Textile Expo was held in Tashkent

On October 12-13, the 12th Uzbekistan Cotton and Textile International Expo was held in the capital Tashkent. Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Rozukulov attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. In his speech, Rozukulov reviewed the history, current situation and prospects of Uzbekistan’s cotton industry, pointing out that the cotton and textile industry is one of the important pillars of Uzbekistan’s national economy and plays a decisive role in the socio-economic development of Uzbekistan. In recent years, Uzbekistan’s cotton industry has developed rapidly and its quality has continued to improve. High-quality cotton and first-grade cotton account for more than 95%. The annual output of lint exceeds 3 million tons and the annual cotton output exceeds 1 million tons. At present, Uzbekistan has become the sixth largest cotton producer and the fifth largest cotton exporter in the world, playing an increasingly important role in international cotton cultivation and trade. The development of Uzbekistan’s textile industry is also remarkable. The total textile output increased by nearly 400% in ten years, from 152,000 tons in 1995 to 600,000 tons in 2015. The output value of the light industry, mainly the textile industry, has accounted for the total industrial output. It accounts for 26% of the output value and accounts for more than 44% of the total output value of consumer goods. The export volume has also increased from US$7 million to US$1.1 billion. In the future, Uzbekistan will continue to increase the scientific and technological content of the textile industry, improve the upstream and downstream industrial chains, increase the added value of products, and strive to increase the proportion of localized processing of cotton production from the current nearly 40% to more than 60%, and strive to increase the proportion of localized processing of cotton production to more than 60% by 2020. Achieve 100% growth in textile exports.

Rozukulov also mentioned in his speech that since independence, Uzbekistan has attracted more than 2.5 billion US dollars in funds from China, South Korea, Germany, Russia, the United States, Japan, Switzerland, Turkey and other countries, and has operated more than 200 joint ventures. A modern textile enterprise with a total annual production capacity of more than 100 million pieces of textiles. In the next step, we will continue to expand efforts to attract foreign investment, and plan to launch 140 textile production projects with a total investment of more than 2 billion US dollars by 2020.
