Canada implements voluntary recall of Chinese-made children’s pajamas
On October 28, 2016, Health Canada and MiniKids Inc. jointly announced a voluntary recall of Chinese-made children’s pajamas.
The recalled product is “Caluby” brand boys’ pajamas, which consists of tops and pajama bottoms. The red and blue top has an image of an alien face printed on it, and the pajama bottoms have a cartoon alien image printed on it. The pajamas are made of 33% cotton and have the code 1166 printed on the tag inside the garment.
Twelve units of the recalled products were sold by MiniKids Inc. in Canada from July 2016 to October 2016. The reason for the recall is that Health Canada’s sampling tests determined that the recalled products did not meet the requirements of Canadian law regarding the flammability of children’s pajamas. Children’s loose-fitting pajamas are more likely to come into contact with ignition sources such as stoves, candles and matches than tight-fitting pajamas. Once ignited, loose pajamas will burn quickly and may cause severe burns over large areas of a child’s body. Therefore, cotton is not allowed in loose fitting pajamas fabrics.
To date, Health Canada and MiniKids Inc. have not received any reports of accidents or personal injuries related to the use of this product. For more information about sleepwear safety, check out the HealthyCanadianschildren’ssleepwear page.
Health Canada advises consumers to immediately stop using the recalled products and return them to the store where they were purchased for a full refund. Canada implements voluntary recall of Chinese-made children’s pajamas
