Canada implements voluntary recall of children’s onesies made in China

On December 23, 2016, Health Canada and Group Lemurinc. jointly announced a voluntary recall of children’s onesies made in China.

The products recalled this time are two jumpsuits from PetitLemSignature, which are long-sleeved, similar to pajamas, and do not have feet. The garment is made of light gray French terry fabric (100% cotton). The clothes are printed with blue patterns of small triangles or stars. There are hidden buttons and blue pockets on the chest. Style codes are 16SE09L346 and 16SE07L345. The style code is printed on the label.

88 units of the recalled products were sold in various retail stores in Canada from February 2016 to December 2016. The garment has a similar appearance to pajamas and may be misused as pajamas. The reason for the recall is that Health Canada’s sampling tests determined that the recalled products did not meet the requirements of Canadian law regarding the flammability of children’s pajamas. Children’s loose-fitting pajamas are more likely to come into contact with ignition sources such as stoves, candles and matches than tight-fitting pajamas. Once ignited, loose pajamas will burn quickly and may cause severe burns over large areas of a child’s body. Therefore, cotton is not allowed in loose fitting pajamas fabrics.

As of December 9, 2016, PetitLem has not received any reports of accidents or personal injuries related to the use of this product. For more information about sleepwear safety, check out the HealthyCanadianschildren’ssleepwear page.

Health Canada advises consumers to immediately stop using the recalled products and return them to the store where they were purchased for a full refund. Canada implements voluntary recall of children’s onesies made in China
